Brownies for Breakfast? Sure, it’s Friday!!

And not just any brownie for breakfast… Kahlua brownies. Yum.

These brownies are so awesome. Rich Rich Rich! Like I’ve mentioned before, I do not have a problem with the rich stuff. I love it! I also got to try out my brand new Kitchen Aid last night. It is incredible… not sure how I lived before without it. I got so much other stuff done while it just sat and mixed away. Joy!

Anyway, here’s the how-to on the brownies:

You’ll need

1.5 – 2 cups chocolate chips
2 sticks butter
2.5 cups flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 salt
1.5 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1 egg white
1/2 cup kahlua

Icing
1 cup powdered sugar
3-4 tbsp butter
2 tbsp whipping cream
2 tbsp kahlua

Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees. Grease up a brownie pan. I used a small 8 x 8 (i think) pyrex.

On a stove-top, melt 2 stick of butter and chocolate chips. I used about 1.5 cup semi sweet and then about .5 cup milk and white chocolate. Stir every minute or so to keep it moving without burning.

In a separate smaller bowl, sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside

In a larger bowl, cream egg, egg whites, sugar, and kahlua. Once this is combined, add in chocolate mixture. Let this mix and then gradually add in flour mixture. Once this is all mixed, pour into prepared brownie pan and bake for about 38- 40 minutes.

While baking, prepare your icing.

Combine melted butter, kahlua, and whipping cream. Once this is mixed, add in powdered sugar and whisk together.

Once the brownies are out and cool, ice them. The original recipe came from here. I just made a few modifications in my baking.

I brought these to work for a birthday party. So far, I have heard nothing but good things about them, but most everyone says “woah, rich!!” Give them a try. They have a nice Kahlua kick to them, but it isn’t too overwhelming. Perfect for a Friday at the office. 🙂

I am so excited about this weekend… staying in and watching a ton of tv. I have Seasons 1, 2, and 3 of 24 to watch. Woo! Wes will be here and we plan on doing that and making taco soup tonight. Yum!

Tomorrow is the Cowboy’s playoff game. We are having a watching party at my friend Levi’s (check out his blog!!). I will be making some kind of dip… 7 layer… pico de gallo… who knows!? I’ll come up with something though.

And what workouts will I be doing to counteract all these brownies and dips and delicious meals, you ask? Well, yesterday, despite the freezing temps, I worked out in a garage with the CG group. It was pretty great… lots of push-ups, squats, and even some wall sprints. Today, I plan to spend some much needed time running, either on the treadmill (blah) or bundled up outside. We shall see. Tomorrow, I am thinking I might try to go to the morning CG session, once again, it depends on how cold it is. If not, I’ll be doing my own CG style work-out inside.

Have a great weekend!
