I’m choosing to ignore all of the craziness that is happening in Texas today like Big Tex burning down and the bomb threat at Texas A&M to talk about happy things.
Before I came up with the pumpkin pie nutella pizza last week, Wes created a spicy whole wheat Italian pizza.
Honestly I can’t even tell you what is on it.
I know he used at least 4 tablespoons of butter, a whole bunch of onions, spicy Italian sausage, and a ridiculous amount of cheese.
He also tossed in some prosciutto and fresh basil for good measure. Oh and a little bit of pineapple to give it a bit of the sweet and spicy vibe.
Needless to say, it was amazing. We used the same whole wheat crust that was the base for my pumpkin pie pizza. However instead of adding cinnamon and cloves to his dough, he added red pepper flakes, garlic powder, and italian seasoning.
Definitely a good choice.
Oh and did I mention that it was stuffed crust? Because it was.
Stuffed with a whole mess of Italian sausage and cheese. You really can’t go wrong with that combination.
I highly recommend this dough recipe (but omitting the spices). It crisps up beautifully on the bottom and delivers the perfect pizza texture when you bite into it. I think it will be my go-to recipe for pizza from now on.
Sorry folks, there really isn’t a recipe to accompany this one. The quantities are completely unknown so just use your imagination and build a pizza to your liking. You can’t go wrong!
Also Sunday is the last day to get in on the Hodgson Mill Giveaway. To enter just leave a comment on this post or on the Pumpkin Pie Nutella Post. Hodgson Mill will be sending one lucky reader a $25 gift pack!
