October time

Time just keeps flying by doesn’t it? I can hardly believe it is October, but here we are. As I’m waiting for the cooler temps to roll in (they have to be coming right?), I’ve been stock piling recipes that I want to make this fall. You’d be surprised to know that I’ve only made one, that’s right, ONE loaf of pumpkin bread so far.

I finally got around to reading my October issue of Cooking Light. If you don’t subscribe, you should pick up a copy. I think I got a year’s subscription for about $5, so even if I only look at the magazine every couple of months it is worth it. I think this October issue though has really hit it out of the park. I have about 10 recipes dog-eared to try. Cooking light

Tonight we are trying a slightly modified version of their taco bowls. And I’ve got “wild rushroom farfalle,” “salmon bowls” and “short-rib ragout” all on the menu for this week. The true test will be if Chaney will eat any of it. It all looks delicious in the magazine, so let’s hope this tired mama can replicate it!

On top of trying to be better about cooking for the family, I’m also doing something a little crazy tonight. I am going in for my first body fat analysis where I actually get dunked under water. It is supposed to be the most accurate method in finding out your RMR and body fat %. The results may be unpleasant, but I am actually really looking forward to it. I have NO CLUE where I stand and would really like a better idea of what I should be eating every day to maintain current muscle mass. I wish I would have done this earlier in marathon training, but you live your learn right?

I’ve mentioned my Rodan + Fields business a few times in the last year, but I am really excited to share the promotion I have for October, “Tools for Jewels.” Tools for jewels

Both of these organizations are ones that I support, so I am excited to be offering something that will benefit them for my R+F customers.

I’m going to try and be better about blogging and sharing the meals that we do make. When I’m trying to stay on track, it helps me so much to have the accountability of sharing what I’m making. Plus I miss taking all of my food photos! I’ll keep you updated on what I think of the recipes from CL this month.
